Building Healthy, Equitable Communities

A series of collaborative trainings for government & community leaders

What are the elements of a healthy and equitable community? How do we create conditions in which all children and families can thrive?

To foster collaborative thinking on these essential questions, ChangeLab Solutions created the Building Healthy, Equitable Communities Series, where we explored the topic of health equity. We discussed how law and policy coupled with community power can catalyze new opportunities for everyone to achieve their full health potential.

This series of 6 strategic trainings — each including a blog post, a webinar, and an interactive expert panel — examined a range of topics from food systems to the built environment to preemption (archived below). View all the trainings or choose the ones that best address your needs and mission.

Each training highlights and opens up conversations about

  • the consequences of laws and policies that don’t take health equity into account — and how we can respond;
  • on-the-ground stories and innovations from community health leaders;
  • technical tools and resources to support your work in changemaking for health; and
  • thought partnership on strategic approaches, implementation, and enforcement.

The series engaged a wide audience, including public health lawyers as well as practitioners in health and planning departments, school districts, and health-oriented organizations and coalitions. Community champions — teachers, parents, and youth — also exchanged valuable insights in these trainings. We believe these sessions will leave you inspired and prepared to tackle challenges in your community, equipped with new strategies and a holistic understanding of what it takes to build a healthy, equitable community.
