Healthy Neighborhoods

What place-based strategies connect to the broader determinants of health? How can communities use long-range plans to drive health equity?

Episode 4 explores the interconnected elements of healthy places. Blog post

Where you live plays a significant role in how healthy you are. But when it comes to promoting health, not all neighborhoods are created equal. Many of the differences between neighborhoods exist because of decades’ worth of interrelated policies that have cumulatively influenced where investment and opportunity are concentrated and who has access to them. ChangeLab Solutions’ senior planner Erik Calloway and policy analyst Chassidy Hanley outline 8 policies underlying today’s place-based health disparities, as well as resources that can help heal these harms.

Webinar

How can we use place-based strategies to address health equity? In this webinar, we explored how long-range planning can shape places and health. Specifically, we discussed how place-based strategies are central to health equity, a framework categorizing the elements of healthy places, and how to organize long-range plans using health equity concepts.

This webinar features Moses Gates of the Regional Plan Association, who discusses how equity was integrated into the design and implementation of the Fourth Regional Plan, a roadmap to achieving greater equity, shared prosperity, better health, and sustainability throughout the New York metropolitan region.
