Restricting Junk Food Advertising on School Buses

A fact sheet about the First Amendment and Junk Food Definitions

Fact Sheet
Food & Beverages

Some states allow school districts to sell advertising space on school buses as a way to raise funds for school activities. Parents, public health advocates, and others concerned about childhood obesity can act to prohibit ads for unhealthy food and beverages on school buses.

This fact sheet explores legal issues associated with restricting such advertising, and explains how parents and public health advocates can work with policymakers to exempt ads for harmful products on school buses. Be sure to check out all of our resources on food and beverage marketing.
