Our vision for a public health workforce well-equipped to use law
ChangeLab Solutions and the CDC’s Public Health Law Program are partners in supporting public health professionals at all career stages, from students to established leaders.
PHLA Overview Vision
Law is a determinant of health that can be used to improve health outcomes

We envision a workforce of public health professionals who are equipped to advance health equity through community partnerships, research, and action on law and policy. Our tools and trainings help public health professionals improve their ability to use law and policy solutions in collaboration with the communities most affected by health inequities.

What we've learned about workforce needs from assessments

1

Training

Law is a critical determinant of health; yet most public health practitioners do not receive any formal public health law training.

2

Actionable support

Many public health practitioners are committed to working on health equity, but don’t know where to start or how to navigate structural, legal, or political barriers.

3

Tailored resources

Health departments fall across a continuum of readiness and have unique ways of engaging with communities and other government partners to address health disparities.

PHLA Vision Pathway
The Public Health Law Academy supports public health practitioners at every stage of their careers

We use training and outreach strategies to make the law accessible for anyone interested in law and policy interventions that can improve health outcomes and dismantle health inequities. Our resources are designed to span the full length of a public health career by strengthening educational pathways and building workforce capacity.
