The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act (HHFKA), enacted in December 2010, was a momentous step toward improving the school food environment.

To make sure the law is implemented effectively, school staff, food service providers, and public health and community leaders can work together to make school foods healthier, more appealing, and accessible to all students.

ChangeLab Solutions developed this fact sheet to look at how the HHFKA improves the nutritional quality of school meals, increases the funds available for meals, and allows low-income families to more easily prove their eligibility to receive the meals.
