Using Complete Streets to Increase Equity

Complete Streets can improve health for all

Complete Streets is the concept of designing streets so that all people — whether they’re walking, bicycling, using public transportation, driving, or using mobility devices — can safely and easily get where they’re going. Complete Streets improve health, safety, and economic opportunities for communities.

Writing in a recent blog post for the National Association of County & City Health Officials (NACCHO), senior planner Tina Yuen and digital content writer Patrick Glass explain how Complete Streets can improve health and equity for all residents.

In 2018, local leaders in Baltimore reached out to ChangeLab Solutions for help in ensuring that racial and economic equity were included in a citywide Complete Streets ordinance. To learn more about this and other examples of how Complete Streets policies can help communities of color and low-income neighborhoods, read the full blog post on the NACCHO website.
